Deployment to Ukraine
I understand that most of my time in Ukraine was during 2018, but I completed the deployment in 2019 that’s why it is on this list. The opportunity I had to experience the Ukrainian culture and travel around Europe was just unbelievable. It was an experience that I’ll probably never have again and most definitely one I’ll never forget.
EuroTrip 2019 (CPH, DUB, AMS, VIE)
On January 2, 2019, I began my whirlwind solo tour around Europe. During the fourteen days I traveled, I spent time in Cophengan, Denmark; Dublin, Ireland; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and Vienna, Austria. Subscribe to read more about this amazing trip as I will be posting more about each city and country at a later date.
Weekend trip to Oslo, Norway and Stockholm, Sweden
While in Ukraine, we could take passes within the borders of Ukraine. Shortly after 2019 rolled around, we could take passes outside the borders. I planned a trip to Oslo, Norway and Stockholm, Sweden and invited Jen to join me. We had a great time visiting these cities and wish the trip could have lasted longer.
Began the home building process
After tying the knot and being back at home full time, we decided that we would start looking for a home. Where we live is okay, but it’s a bit small for us. Jen bought it fifteen years ago when it was just her and her doggo. Now it’s her (and all her stuff), me (and all my stuff), two doggos, and all OUR stuff. After searching for a couple of months, we kept coming back to a single floor plan and one area we really like. So, we did a thing.
Regained my vision
Just a few short days after turning 42, I woke up and could not see out of my right eye. After a trip to the ER, I was informed I had a cataract. I had surgery after I moved back to Murfreesboro and I once again have 20-20 vision.
Began new position with the TN National Guard
While in Ukraine, I was notified that I would be transferring to 3/117th Quartermaster Battalion after I returned from the deployment. On the first of November, I began my new assignment as the Operations NCOIC.
Moved back home (Middle TN)
My latest assignment is in Smyrna, TN and therefore I was able to get rid of the apartment in Knoxville as well as that three-hour drive on Sunday and Friday afternoons.
Cultivated friendships
During my time with the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, I made some life-long friends. While I will not go into names, these friendships are ones I will cherish and continue to cultivate forever.
Began rebuilding my relationship with Kid
Prior to the deployment, the Kiddo and I did not have the greatest of relationships. Sometimes stuff happens and the reality of how short life can be, hits you like a ton of bricks. With that being said, having a good relationship with the Kiddo is now a top priority.
Until next time, thanks for reading and take care!
