I decided a few months ago that this weekend would be my first overnight trip into Lviv, Ukraine. I knew that since it was Thanksgiving weekend, I would be homesick and being able to explore Lviv would give me something to keep my mind occupied.
I will always remember Turkey Day 2018. Not from just being in a foreign country, but what I spent the day doing. I woke up around 8 and fumbled around the Air B&B for a bit before I got ready for my appointment. Yes I made an appointment on Thanksgiving, but it’s probably not what you expect.
Yes, I made an appointment to get new ink on Thanksgiving. For about 6 hours, I sat in a chair getting some new artwork on the inside of my forearm. Although I found some inconsistencies, I am still pleased with the way it turned out.
Although I wasn’t at home for Thanksgiving, I wasn’t by myself. I was with some complete strangers, but I had a great day. Would I have rather been at home surrounded by family, of course. I could have even stayed on base this weekend and enjoyed Thanksgiving with my military family. But sometimes you just need to have some time to yourself to reflect on everything that you have to be thankful for. I used yesterday to do just that.
I hope you had a great day with family and friends , but my sincerest hope is that you took some time out of your running around, eating, and football to reflect on your life and those that are in it and realize just how much you have to be thankful for.
- I am thankful for everyone in my life. Whether you are new or you’ve been a part of my life for a while, I am so thankful that we have crossed paths and that I can call you friends or family.
- I am thankful for medical personnel, their training, and their abilities.
- I am thankful for fresh starts.
- I am thankful, even though I am away from home, I have the ability to travel abroad and experience a culture so much different than I am used to.
- I am thankful that you took the time out of your day to spend time reading my rambling thoughts.
