PSA: Okay, I’m a slacker. I should have shared this content last year at this time, but I didn’t. I hope that even though it’s been over a year since I took this trip, you still enjoy the content.
While I was in El Paso in July 2018 preparing for my Ukraine deployment, we were told that we would receive fourteen days of leave. We would be able to travel back to the states or go wherever we would like, but it would not be like my last deployment. When I came home in April 2009, the Army paid for my flight to Atlanta. Since the deployment to Ukraine was not a combat deployment, any flights we take are on our own dime.
After looking at flights from Europe to the states, I realized one thing. They are expensive! After a few conversations with Jen, we decided that I would not fly back to the states for my leave. It was then when I started researching places to go in Europe and started looking at prices for flights. I will say that I was shocked at the cheap airfare. I decided that I could see a few cities around Europe fairly cheap and it would probably be a once in a lifetime experience.
I left Lviv, Ukraine on 2 January 2019. The first leg of my journey was Copenhagen, Denmark. After a couple of days, I made my way to Dublin, Ireland. My next flight took me to Amsterdam, Netherlands, where I spent a few days. I spent the last few days of my trip in Vienna, Austria before flying back to Lviv. Although I would have loved to spend more time in each place, this trip was amazing, and I enjoyed myself immensely!
In the upcoming weeks, you will find blog content for each city I visited. I hope these posts will give y’all a better idea of what I did in each city, why I chose the cities that I visited and some things that I feel you would need to know in case you ever decide to visit.
Thanks for reading and take care!
