It’s the first of the month! It’s time to Mo! If you don’t know what Movember is, please take a few minutes to check out the site. It’s a really good way to raise money and awareness for men’s health. For those of you that are too lazy to click on the link, here is what Movember is about straight from the website:
”The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising $650 million and funding over 1,000 programs focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.”
Why am I raising funds and awareness for this foundation? In 2011, my biological dad lost his fight with prostate cancer. Although we didn’t have the greatest relationship, he was still my dad. This is just one way that I can honor him and help out with the research for cancer that affect men’s lives.
What exactly am I doing to help this foundation? I’m glad you asked! This will be my fifth year participating in Movember. I plan on growing a moustache for the entire month of November and raising money for this organization. My goal this year is $750. My plan was to donate $5 for every time I hit the ice while playing hockey, but since I broke my ankle recently, I cannot do that. This year I’ll be relying on your help for the majority of my campaign.
How can you help? If you’d like, you can donate to my campaign or if you’re feeling froggy, jump in and raise money with me and let your ‘stache grow! (Ladies can become a Mo Sista without growing the facial hair) My challenge to all my friends is to donate just $5. Social media can be great when used as a tool for good things. I believe this is one of those things. I know I have some friends that overlap on the two social media outlets that I use, but between Twitter and Facebook, I have 1384 followers and friends. If everyone gave $5, I would blow my goal out of the water and raise over $7000. So achieving my goal of $750 should be fairly easy!
